UC San Francisco debuts UCSF Health

In an ad campaign launched Oct. 26, UC San Francisco introduced UCSF Health, a new integrated health system that will serve people throughout the Bay Area.

UCSF has transformed its healthcare enterprise from a standalone academic medical center to an integrated healthcare network with eight entities and a new brand with the theme, "redefining possible," according to a University of California report

The formation of UCSF Health is the product of an extensive two-year strategic planning process led by a 22-member steering committee, according to the report. The "UCSF Vision 2020" strategic plan outlines the health system's goals for the next five years, which aim to "provide innovative, high-quality, cost-competitive clinical services and deliver an unparalleled patient experience across the entire care continuum."

UCSF Health is being led by UCSF's senior leaders with healthcare expertise: Chancellor Sam Hawgood will serve as chair, Mark Laret as president and CEO and Talmadge King, MD, dean of the UCSF School of Medicine and vice chancellor of medical affairs.

The move was driven by the growing shift in healthcare delivery in which academic medical centers are forging new partnerships and affiliations with community hospitals and physician practices to build on each other's strengths, increase access to a broader patient population and share risks and reduce costs, according to the report.
