LouAnn Woodward, MD, vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of Jackson-based University of Mississippi School of Medicine, has been named chair of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, according to WDAM.com.
The LCME was established in 1942 and is the accrediting body for medical education programs in the U.S.
Dr. Woodward will become chair-elect of the LCME on July 1. She will serve in that role for one year before becoming chair in July 2017. She'll hold her position as chair for one year.
In 2013, Dr. Woodward was appointed to a three-year membership in the LCME. She was reappointed this year and currently serves as one of the LCME's 18 members.
"I'm honored to receive this opportunity and humbled that my colleagues have confidence in me to take it on," Dr. Woodward said, according to the report.
