New Orleans-based Tulane University School of Medicine and its A.B. Freeman School of Business announced the launch of a new, accelerated MD-MBA program, slated to start this summer.
The new program will be offered to newly admitted medical students only. Students will complete business courses during the summers before and after the first year of medical school, with the remaining courses spread throughout their remaining years in school.
"Future leaders in medicine must excel as clinicians as well as managers in today's rapidly evolving healthcare market," Lee Hamm, MD, senior vice president and dean of Tulane University School of Medicine, said in a statement. "This joint degree program is designed to prepare physicians who may later run their own practices, become biomedical entrepreneurs or pursue future careers in healthcare administration or pharmaceutical development."
The new program will be offered in addition to the school's existing five-year MD-MBA program. Current students are eligible to apply for the five-year program in their third year of medical school.
