Tufts medical school receives $15M gift

Boston-based Tufts University School of Medicine received a $15 million gift from the Jaharis Family Foundation.

Through the gift, the medical school will relocate and expand its gross anatomy laboratory. The new lab will include space for more than 200 students and faculty members, computer screens at every dissection table, an advanced dissection lab and a specialty anatomy suite.

In addition, $2 million of the gift will create scholarships for low-income medical students pursuing careers in family medicine. Each year, Tufts will give a total of $100,000 to fourth-year students based on their financial need.

"There's nothing more noble than an investment in education and the health and well-being of our society. Family physicians trained at Tufts will play a critical role as we confront the obesity epidemic, opioid addition and other great health challenges of our times and work to resolve them," said Tufts University President Anthony Monaco, MD, PhD, in a statement.
