Top 10 Reasons Physicians Are Relocating in 2012

In the Ericksson Physician Search 2012 Annual Survey, physician respondents were encouraged to indicate all reasons affecting their relocation efforts within the 2012 calendar year.

A newer trend revealed by the survey is physicians increasingly citing financial security as the primary motivator in their relocation. "In an uncertain economic climate, physicians are seeking the same thing you or I would: stability," says Rod Arnold, CEO of Ericksson Physician Search.

Here are the top 10 responses from the survey.

• Financial considerations: 57 percent
• Dissatisfaction with current practice: 52 percent
• Significant personal life changes: 42 percent
• Prefer different size community: 38 percent
• Desire to join a group practice: 32 percent
• Proximity to family/close friends: 28 percent
• Prefer hospital-employed model: 25 percent
• Prefer different climate: 21 percent
• Planning ahead for retirement: 19 percent
• Dissatisfaction with current community: 9 percent
