Between March 25 and June 11, Medscape surveyed 738 medical school students about their education experience. About 70% of students indicated a preferred specialty. 

Here are their top choices:

Internal medicine — 14%

Family medicine — 10%

Emergency medicine — 8%

Psychiatry — 7%

Pediatrics — 7%

OB-GYN — 6%

Neurology/neurosurgery — 6%

Anesthesiology — 6%

Orthopedics/orthopedic surgery — 5%

Dermatology — 4%

General surgery — 4%

Radiology — 3%

Pathology — 2%

Cardiology — 2%

Oncology/hematology — 2%

Specialized surgery/transplant surgery — 2%

Ophthalmology — 2%

Physical medicine and rehabilitation — 2%

Otolaryngology — 1%

Urology — 1%

Gastroenterology — 1%

Plastic surgery — 1%

Critical care — 1%
