Representatives from Sparrow Health System and affiliated Carson Health have signed a letter of intent to reach a formal integration agreement by the end of the year, according to the Ionia Sentinel-Standard.
Carson Health, based in Carson City, Mich., has been affiliated with Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow since 1997. Carson Health aims to improve the quality of patient care through integration. The move is expected to improve local access to healthcare, reduce redundant services and drive down the cost of healthcare services.
Carson Health includes a 61-bed acute-care hospital and 16 physician clinics in four surrounding counties.
Sparrow Health Systems is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network and is affiliated with the three human health colleges at Michigan State University. The organization operates hospitals around central Michigan, in Lansing, St. Johns, Ionia and Carson City.
