Brockton, Mass.-based Signature Healthcare and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston have partnered to bring comprehensive cancer care to residents of southeastern Massachusetts, according to The Enterprise.
The two hospitals are already clinically affiliated for certain services, including orthopedics. With the expanded affiliation, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital will offer cancer treatments that were previously not available at the facility, such as medical oncology and chemotherapy. The hospital currently offers early detection, radiation oncology, genetic counseling, social work and palliative care, according to the report.
Rolf Freter, MD, PhD, will join Brockton Hospital in March as chief of medical oncology and hematology. Most recently, he served as director of clinical research at Dana Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.
Though the new cancer program at Brockton is set to open in mid-March, hospital officials said it is ready to begin scheduling appointments for interested patients, according to the report.
