Report: Physicians Need More Favorable Practice Conditions

The Physicians Foundation has released a white paper discussing issues practicing physicians face and suggestions for how to address those challenges.

One of the policy recommendations made in the paper is to create a federal Commission for Administrative Simplification in Medicine, which would be tasked with evaluating and then reducing cumbersome physician reporting requirements. Another change proposed is a new debt relief system for young physicians to help them pay off loans and curb physician shortages.

The paper also encourages the development of patient-centered medical homes and other new practice models to help diversify service offering and improve productivity. It also recommends reducing hospital payments for outpatient imaging and surgical services versus the same services in lower-cost, private settings.
