Providence Health Care — a member of Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services — and Seattle-based health system Group Health Cooperative have signed an agreement to form a jointly owned comprehensive physician organization, according to a news release.
The new limited liability corporation will include physicians from both organizations working together to seek ways to improve the overall delivery of healthcare services in and around Spokane, Wash. The agreement is not a merger or acquisition.
The new group will include providers from Providence Medical Group, Group Health Physicians and Spokane-based Columbia Medical Associates, according to the release. One hundred and thirty-two primary care physicians with the new organization will serve as medical home coordinators for patients in the Spokane region. The physicians will coordinate care among specialists and partnering hospitals, including two Spokane-based Providence Hospitals, Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital and Holy Family Hospital.
Close to 400 physicians and advanced practitioners will be a part of the new organization. The new provider organization will begin serving Providence employees and Group health patients seeking care from Providence Medical Group, Group Health or Columbia Medical Associates clinics beginning in January 2013.
Later in 2013, the physician organization will be made available to health insurance companies and healthcare purchasers as a provider network option.
