Seventy percent of physicians say workplace culture is just as important to them as compensation, a recent Medscape report found.
The "Seeking an Energizing Environment: Medscape Physician Workplace Culture Report 2024" report surveyed 1,240 physicians across 29 specialties between Jan. 8 and March 6.
Here are 13 numbers to know:
1. Most physicians said their workplace quality is steady or improving, with 16% indicating it is improving, 47% saying it is holding steady and 38% indicating it is declining.
2. Most physicians said their workplace was at least "moderately supportive" of them, with 23% saying moderately supportive, 32% saying supportive and 21% saying very supportive.
3. When asked if their workplace was supportive of patients, 20% said moderately supportive, 42% said supportive and 30% said very supportive.
4. Most physicians (82%) said it is viable for an employer to maintain a culture that is consistently positive for physicians and also meet patient and marketplace demands.
5. The top workplace culture priorities for physicians were commitment to work-life balance for physicians and staff (54%), physician autonomy over patient care (52%) and a positive atmosphere (46%).
