Naples, Fla.-based Physicians Regional Healthcare System will lose its designation as a comprehensive stroke center after two of its top neurosurgeons leave this month, according to The News-Press.
Neurosurgeons and brothers Eric Eskioglu, MD, and Brian Mason, MD, are leaving due to declining patient volume. Drs. Eskioglu and Mason joined the system in 2012 from Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Memorial Health System. They will still have hospital privileges, but will no longer be employees of the two-hospital system, a division of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.
The hospital will still treat strokes, but emergency neurologic stenting for ruptures or near ruptures of aneurysms will no longer be offered, spokeswoman Renee Palin told The News-Press. This means the hospital will no longer be considered a comprehensive stroke center. However, nearby NCH Healthcare System, also based in Naples, offers comprehensive stroke center services.
