Sixteen of 40 primary care providers left or are leaving Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital's network this year, causing some of the providers who remain to be booked until November, according to local newspaper The Post-Star.
The departures come after the hospital lost $38 million due to a billing system malfunction in 2017. This resulted in some layoffs and salary reductions, according to the report.
Of the 16 providers leaving the network, six are physicians, and the rest are physician assistants and nurse practitioners. These providers have not been replaced, The Post-Star reports. Departure numbers are based on tips from providers and patients. The health system did not comment on a list of departing providers, but a Post-Star reporter called the health system's various primary care locations to confirm, according to the report.
Glens Falls Vice President of Planning Tracy Mills told The Post-Star by email that a 40 percent turnover rate in primary care is not unusual, and that the health system has hired in other specialties. "Since 2018, 38 new providers — physicians and physician assistants — have joined our team," Ms. Mills told The Post-Star.
