Nursing Home Leader Bids for Role in ACOs

The head of the nation's largest nursing home trade group said his sector would be "perfect partners" for accountable care organizations and nursing homes should not be left behind as the healthcare landscape changes, according to a report by McKnight's Long-Term Care News.

"We want to take the incentives out of treating people longer," said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association.

Even if ACOs don't gain traction, there is "a logic to episodic bundled payments," Mr. Parkinson said. "It makes sense from the cost side."
