An increasing number of hospitals have acquired independent imaging groups recently, according to a report by Diagnostic Imaging.
Acquiring an imaging center can benefit hospitals by helping them comply with meaningful use requirements for the adoption and integration of electronic medical records, according to the report.
"By acquiring an imaging group, a hospital can be proactive in integrating services and patient records," Brian Baker, president of Regents Health Resources, said in the report.
Mr. Baker also listed several benefits of acquisition for the imaging center in the report such as increased negotiating power with payors and being better equipped to deal with a potential audit of Medicare claims.
