Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Health installed its retail medical clinic, MinuteClinic, in six South Florida Target stores.
The new MinuteClinics— in Boynton Beach, Davie, Deerfield Beach, Miami and West Palm Beach — will be located in repurposed, rebranded Target clinics. The CVS clinics offer walk-in appointments seven days a week and accept most major health plans. They also provide treatment price information online for patients paying out-of-pocket.
The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners who can diagnose and treat common illnesses, acne, rashes, skin conditions, sprains, strains and minor wounds, as well as provide vaccinations, screenings, contraceptive care and smoking cessation services.
"About 50 percent of MinuteClinic visits occur on evenings, weekends and holidays when patients may not be able to get an appointment with their primary care provider and otherwise may need to choose more expensive emergency department or urgent care options," Andrew Sussman, MD, MinuteClinic president and executive vice president and associate CMO of CVS Health, said in a statement. "Also, approximately half of the patients seen at MinuteClinic are 'medically homeless' and do not have a personal physician."
With the addition of these six locations, South Florida MinuteClinic locations now number 28, including those in CVS stores and Navarro Discount Pharmacy stores. The new clinics come as part of a larger, national rollout of MinuteClinics at Target pharmacies. CVS acquired all of the retailer's pharmacies and clinics in December 2015 and is continuing to roll out new locations throughout the year.
