Michigan's St. John Providence Health System Begins 50-50 Co-Management Deal With Physicians

Warren, Mich.-based St. John Providence Health System has arranged a 50-50 co-management deal between physicians and hospitals to co-manage their cardiovascular service line, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.

The operating company, St. John Cardiovascular Co-Management Co., began March 1 and is comprised of 44 cardiologists and heart surgeons, St. John's Hospital in Detroit and St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren and Madison Heights, Mich.

The physicians and hospitals own equal shares of the company and hold an equal number of seats on the board.

Michael Wiemann, MD, president of Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich., said St. John plans to create four additional co-management companies involving Providence Hospital and Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Mich., by late spring, according to the report.
