Members of the Massachusetts Legislature's Joint Committee on Health Care Financing are considering a proposal by Gov. Deval Patrick that would encourage healthcare providers to establish accountable care organizations to coordinate care, according to a Boston Globe report.
The "sweeping payment reform plan" is intended to rein in healthcare costs, but opponents of the measure have concerns about whether the program would hurt the state's smaller hospitals and how exactly it would be funded.
The proposal would help move reimbursements in the sate from fee-for-service to global payments.
