A Maryland Senate bill wants to create a task force to identify why its hospital emergency departments have the longest wait times in the country and find ways to remedy the issue, NBC affiliate WBAL reported Feb. 2.
CMS ranked Maryland last with the longest average wait times in the country over the past seven years, according to the report.
If the bill passes, the task force would investigate best practices in other states including staff-to-patient ratios, triage practices and bed availability. The recommendations would be due in January 2024.
