Martha's Vineyard Hospital trustees to hold closed-door meeting to discuss CEO's ousting

The board of directors of Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital will meet this weekend to review the abrupt firing of former President and CEO Joe Woodin, according to the Vineyard Gazette.

Martha's Vineyard Hospital Board Chairman Timothy Sweet told the Vineyard Gazette Thursday, "We are carrying on the business of the hospital and the board is coming together to review and reflect on the events of recent weeks. The meeting will be closed to press and the public. It's a typical board meeting."

Mr. Sweet did not disclose the day, time or place of the meeting. He also said the board plans to meet with members of the community to discuss the incident, but did not say "who, when or where," according to the report.

Mr. Woodin was abruptly fired June 5 after roughly one year of helming Martha's Vineyard Hospital. The incident spurred intense backlash from the Vineyard community.

Mr. Sweet said he believes people would like to sit down with the board face-to-face, but that board members "are trying to do it on a one-on-one basis because [individuals'] questions become very personal," according to the report.

He said the board has not planned a public meeting to discuss the community's concerns, according to the report. He also did not reveal any details on the board's search for a new leader.

Timothy Walsh, former president and CEO of the hospital, will serve on an interim basis until officials hire another individual.
