Indianapolis-based Marian University is opening the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in August, the first medical school to open in Indiana in more than a century, according to a report by Inside Indiana Business.
There will be 162 students in the medical school's foundational class, according to the report. School officials expect to graduate about 150 students each year.
The Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine is expected to help reduce Indiana's physician shortage — according to Inside Indiana Business, the state will need about 5,000 more physicians by 2025.
