Indiana House Republicans released a budget Monday allocating nearly twice as much funding for a new Evansville, Ind., medical education and research campus than Indiana Gov. Mike Pence originally proposed, according to Indianapolis Business Journal.
The proposed budget includes $36 million — up from the governor's proposed $19.2 million — for the project, which is a partnership between Indiana University School of Medicine, University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College.
The state would fund $32 million for the public schools and the private University of Evansville would provide the remaining $4 million under the proposed plan, according to the report.
The schools originally asked for almost $50 million in funding.
