How this ER physician is tackling gun violence

A Brooklyn, New York-based emergency room physician is taking a stand against gun violence in America's cities.

Robert Gore, MD, launched an initiative in New York in 2011 called Kings Against Violence, NewsOne reported. Through this initiative, Dr. Gore is working with at-risk youth to give them alternatives to acting out violently. Kings Against Violence hosts workshops and activities in schools, hospitals and other community centers, according to the report.

The workshops focus on topics like crisis management, identity exploration, critical thinking, mediation and conflict resolution, according to the report.

"When you see things over and over again, there are a couple of things that can happen — one you can become numb to the situation, or you can see what else is there — there has to be a different way," Dr. Gore told NewsOne.
