Henry Ford CEO: Higher Pay Only Way to Attract More PCPs

Nancy Schlichting, the CEO of Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, says there are no easy answers in addressing primary care physician shortages, but paying PCPs more money is a place to start, according to a Bridge Michigan report.

Ms. Schlichting mentioned many medical school graduates rack up more than $200,000 loans in debts, and the pay PCPs receive doesn't allow them to pay off six-figure student loans.

"We are not paying primary care physicians enough when they are already in a difficult position," she said in the report.

Michigan, like many other states, faces a PCP shortage.
