Davenport, Iowa-based Genesis Health System, which serves the Quad Cities region of Iowa and Illinois, is teaming up with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to from an accountable care organization, according to a Des Moines Register report.
Genesis Health may also soon be a Medicare ACO; the health system applied to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program and awaits CMS' announcement of the next round of MSSP participants, expected to come in several weeks.
Wellmark has signed similar ACO contracts in Iowa with Des Moines-based Iowa Health System and Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines and is negotiating with other health systems in Iowa to form more ACOs, according to the report.
