A spokesperson for the Detroit Medical Center said DMC seeks to maintain its decades-long partnership with Detroit-based Wayne State University despite comments made last week by the dean of the university's medical school, according to MLive.
DMC officials said in a statement that the medical center "remains committed to finalizing a long-term, transformational partnership [with WSU] in the pursuit of academic excellence and high-quality healthcare for all," according to the article.
WSU School of Medicine Dean Jack Sobel, MD, said Dec. 13 the DMC's contributions to their partnership have been "minimal" and the medical center "contribute[s] nothing to education [and] nothing to research on this campus." Dr. Sobel also said the medical school will "be clearly negotiating with other partners" on future endeavors.
Matt Lockwood, a spokesperson for WSU, said the university is not severing ties with DMC, according to the article.
