CVS Health has entered into new clinical affiliations with New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, including its Center for Telehealth.
Through these clinical affiliations, CVS Health will provide patients' prescription and visit information to Ochsner and University of Mississippi Medical Center through the integration of secured EHR systems, which will help enhance clinical care for patients each organization serves. CVS' affiliate healthcare providers will receive data on interventions conducted by CVS pharmacists to improve medication adherence for their patients. The affiliation will also encourage collaboration between providers and CVS MinuteClinic — CVS medical walk-in clinics —providers and pharmacists.
"In this era of healthcare reform, we are pleased to work with these healthcare organizations to develop collaborative programs that enhance access to patient care, improve health outcomes and lower healthcare costs in the communities they serve," said Troyen A. Brennan, MD, CMO of CVS Health. "By integrating our electronic medical records and information systems, we will collectively have a more comprehensive view of our patients, which can aid in healthcare decision making and help ensure patients adhere to important medications for chronic diseases."
Currently, CVS has more than 7,800 retail pharmacy locations across the U.S. where CVS pharmacists provide patients with counseling to help them comply with their medications. Additionally, CVS operates more than 900 MinuteClinics available at CVS/pharmacy retail stores.
