Consumer Reports is beginning to publish ratings of primary care physicians in its magazine, starting with roughly 500 groups in Massachusetts.
The ratings are based on statewide patient experience surveys from Massachusetts Health Quality Partners, an organization of consumers, government agencies, hospitals, insurers, physicians and researchers. Consumer Reports will feature the first round of ratings for 329 adult practices and 158 pediatric practices in its next issue. The special edition of the magazine will be mailed to subscribers and hit newsstands in Massachusetts.
Consumer Reports plans to partner with other organizations to publish physician group ratings in other states as well. The magazine already provides ratings and information on hospitals, insurance agencies, heart bypass surgeons and various health products.
