Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., has been approved to acquire Cardiovascular Associates of Marin and San Francisco, according to a Marin Independent Journal report.
Kara Witalis, a healthcare business consultant who advised the Marin Healthcare District board on the acquisition, wrote to the board, "Cardiovascular Associates of Marin is the dominant cardiovascular services provider in Marin County," according to the report.
The hospital plans to contract with the practice's 14 physicians to co-manage the business. The deal, which is expected to be finalized tonight, will nearly double the number of Marin physicians working in Marin General-operated clinics, according to the report.
Ms. Witalis estimated the acquisition of Cardiovascular Associates would bring 300 more patients a year to Marin General by 2015 because fewer patients would have to travel outside the county for cardiac care.
