California physician assistant program loses accreditation

The physician assistant program at Seaside-based California State University-Monterey Bay has lost its accreditation and will shut down in May, KSBW reported Nov. 7.

The school announced the closure in a letter to students, stating that "the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant has withdrawn probationary accreditation for [its] program." The letter continues, "Though this is unfortunate news for our program and students, we have been working diligently to ensure that our MSPA students have a path forward toward their degrees. As a result of the accreditation outcome, we are forced to close our program in May 2024."

The program, which currently has 56 students enrolled, has graduated 84 students in the four years it has run. The school declined to tell KSBW why they lost their accreditation and the news outlet was unable to reach the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
