Beacon Health System in South Bend, Ind., has started the process to merge with The South Bend Clinic, a group with six facilities and more than 90 physicians.
The process is in its initial stages and will require due diligence and approval by the Federal Trade Commission. That is expected to come later this year, according to the news release. More details will become available at that time.
"This new relationship will allow our growing physician group to be much better prepared for the landmark changes they face with healthcare reform and help insure access to primary care and specialists physicians for our community," Phil Newbold, Beacon's CEO, said in the release.
"Healthcare is changing rapidly and around the country medical groups are finding that affiliation with a strong health system allows physicians more time to care for their patients and less time being spent navigating ways to respond to reimbursement changes," Jesse Hsieh, MD, The South Bend Clinic's president, said in the release. "We are excited about the growth opportunities our physicians will have as part of the new Beacon Health System."
