Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has launched an accountable care organization with multispecialty physician group Wilmington (N.C.) Health, according to a news release.
Wilmington Health provides care for more than 30 specialties. The BCBSNC-Wilmington Health ACO will include development of a new oncology program to improve health outcomes through treatments that follow the latest evidence-based research, according to the report.
The ACO will focus on preventative health, chronic disease management, care coordination, reducing hospital readmissions and improving population health while reducing health plan costs.
Specific arrangements for the physician-led ACO are still in the planning stages, according to the report.
