The American Medical Association Foundation, the AMA's philanthropic arm, honored Bernard Lo, MD, a New York City-based internist and bioethicist, with its "2014 Isaac Hays, MD, and John Bell, MD Award for Leadership in Medical Ethics and Professionalism."
Recipients of the award are named for an outstanding contribution to medical ethics and for upholding ethics in the practice of medicine. Dr. Lo, who is president and CEO of the Greenwall Foundation in New York City, and professor emeritus of medicine and emeritus director of the University of California, San Francisco program in medical ethics, is known worldwide as a leader in bioethics and has brought many issues to light, such as advanced care planning. He has also written more than 200 scholarly articles on medical ethics.
