Alabama's Helen Keller Hospital to Enter Surgery Center Joint Venture With Physicians

An ambulatory surgery center in Tuscumbia, Ala., owned by and in operation on the campus of Helen Keller Hospital, is expected to become a hospital/physician joint venture ASC, according to a report from The Times Daily.

Keller Outpatient Surgery Pavilion, which opened in 2009, will be majority owned by the hospital. Physicians will have the opportunity to buy up to 49 percent of the ownership shares in the outpatient surgery center. There are about 20 physicians involved in the joint venture but that could grow to 28, according to the report.

Helen Keller Hospital still needs approval from the Alabama Certificate of Need board to change its ownership structure. If approved, the name of the ASC will change to Colbert ASC Physician's LLC.

According to the Helen Keller Hospital website and earlier reports, Keller Outpatient Surgery Pavilion is a 16,751-square-foot ASC with four operating rooms. It provides services in several areas including GI, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, ENT and urology.
