Advocate Health Care launches trauma recovery center

Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care officially opened the state's second trauma recovery center during a ceremony at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., on Oct. 29.

With funding from the Victims of Crime Act, the health system partnered with the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority to launch the Advocate Trauma Recovery Center, which offers healthcare-based violence interventions for survivors of domestic violence, hate crimes, sexual assault and physical assault, including assault with weapons. It is the only center of its kind in the Chicago area.

"The Advocate Trauma Recovery Center will aid individuals who have experienced trauma by offering trauma-informed care including extensive case management services and therapy to help them begin their healing process," Kim Miiller, PsyD, medical director of the Advocate Trauma Recovery Center, said in a press release. "The center seeks to provide compassionate and expert care to survivors of intentional trauma in order to support their unique needs and to foster hope for a better future."

Advocate will direct patients who have experienced trauma to the center from across its health system. It will also take patient referrals from community partners.
