CMS Administrator Don Berwick, MD, said in a speech that proposed rules for accountable care organizations would be released very soon, according to a report by Politico.
Speaking at a meeting of America's Health Insurance Plans, the trade group for health insurers, Dr. Berwick said HHS, CMS, the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission were collaborating on the draft rules.
The ACO rules were initially expected in December, and since then there have been several reports that they would be out very soon.
At the same meeting, officials at Fairview Health Services, a provider group, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota outlined their ACO-like partnership, which began 2½ years ago.
