There are about a dozen 100-year-old physicians still treating patients in the U.S., CBS News reported July 19.
Andy Margileth, MD, who recently turned 101, is one of those physicians. Dr. Margileth, or Dr. Andy to patients, is a pediatrics specialist with Jackson Health System in Miami.
"It's a feel-good job. It's not even a job. It's just fun," Dr. Margileth told CBS. "What is more important than helping other people?"
With more experience than most will ever acquire, Dr. Margileth is among few today who have practiced through some of the most challenging times in Americans' health history. He's worked through polio outbreaks and other diseases before vaccine development as we know it today.
Dr. Margileth is a World War II Navy veteran and earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1947.
