9 new medical school & residency programs

Here are nine medical school and residency programs that have been announced or launched in 2015, beginning with the most recent.

1. NMSU to open second medical school in New Mexico
Construction is underway on New Mexico's second medical school: the $105 million Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

2. Harvard approves new population health PhD program
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston has approved a new population health sciences PhD program.

3. Tulane to offer accelerated dual MD-MBA program
New Orleans-based Tulane University School of Medicine and its A.B. Freeman School of Business announced the launch of a new, accelerated MD-MBA program, slated to start this summer.

4. New Cleveland Clinic residency program helps transition nurses
Cleveland Clinic is now offering a new one-year residency program for nurses to transition from school into full-time clinical care.

5. UC Riverside to launch residency program in Coachella Valley
University of California, Riverside School of Medicine is set to launch a new family medicine residency program in Coachella Valley with a unique focus on community service.

6. Northeastern State to offer PA program in 2017
Tahlequah, Okla.-based Northeastern State University plans to offer a new physician assistant program beginning in 2017.

7. Seton Hall University and Hackensack UHN to form medical school
Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., and Hackensack (N.J.) University Health Network have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a private, four-year school of medicine.

8. Valley Children's to launch residency program, despite threat to UCSF-Fresno partnership
Madera, Calif.-based Valley Children's Hospital announced plans to launch a graduate education program for pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.

9. St. Mary's to launch new residency program
Athens, Ga.-based St. Mary's Health Care System plans to admit 10 medical residents in July to its new three-year internal medicine residency program
