9 culture changes employers still need to make, per physicians

Physicians said consulting them on organization and policy decisions is the most important factor as employers look to build a strong culture, a recent Medscape report found.

The "Seeking an Energizing Environment: Medscape Physician Workplace Culture Report 2024" report surveyed 1,240 physicians across 29 specialties between Jan. 8 and March 6. The survey asked about a number of factors in culture and how much they mattered to physicians.

Here are the areas of culture that physicians said employers need to improve:

Commitment to work-life balance for physicians and staff — 38%

How management treats staff — 37%

Maintaining a positive atmosphere — 32%

Teamwork — 20%

Creating core organizational values that align with physicians' own — 18%

Offering enough promotion opportunities — 17%

Providing physician mentors/leadership programs — 12%

Ease of access to mental health programs — 8%

Other — 7%
