Eight physician groups in the Cincinnati area have banded together to form the Independent Physicians Collaborative, a group focused on ensuring payers and self-insured employers include the practices in their provider networks, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The physician groups include the following Cincinnati-based practices: Oncology Hematology Care, the Cincinnati Eye Institute, the Mayfield Clinic, the Urology Group, Seven Hills Women's Health Center, Ohio Gastroenterology & Liver Institute. Sharonville, Ohio-based Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and Crestview Hills, Ky.-based Tri-State Gastroenterology Associates are also part of the collaborative.
Together, the collaborative is comprised of 239 physicians, who work closely with area hospitals but want to stay independent, according to the report.
"It's important to help us remain independent so that we can control the product we provide and provide services at the institutions that are most appropriate for that patient," Mark Farrington, CEO of the Mayfield Clinic, told Cincinnati Business Courier.
Representatives from each participating practice met Tuesday with additional physician groups to discuss adding more practices to the collaborative, according to the report.
