Seven pediatrician practices in the Chicago-land area have agreed to combine and form PediaTrust, a financially integrated organization that will officially launch Jan. 1.
The business relationship between the participating practices in PediaTrust will allow them to continue practicing medicine without hospital employment, which has become a growing trend in healthcare.
"In today's changing healthcare environment, many primary care doctors are selling or leaving their private practices due to market consolidation," said Susan Sirota, MD, of Pediatric Partners in Highland Park, Ill. "This business model allows us to remain independent by pooling our medical expertise and financial resources."
PediaTrust plans to offer after-hours care and lactation services as well as an electronic health records system with a patient portal.
The seven pediatrician practices are Pediatric Partners, Elm Street Pediatrics in Winnetka, Ill.; Fairview Pediatrics in Grayslake, Ill., Highland Park Pediatrics in Highland Park, Ill.; Lake Shore Pediatrics in Barrington, Ill.; Pediatric Associates of Barrington (Ill.); and Premier Pediatrics in Lincolnshire, Ill.
PediaTrust will have 32 pediatricians and six nurse practitioners and will be the largest pediatrician group in the Chicago area, according to Chicago Tribune report.
