The new Las Cruces-based New Mexico State University osteopathic medical school secured 300 residency slots across 13 hospitals in New Mexico, according to an Albuquerque Business First report.
The new school, a nearly $70 million project, is privately funded and will be for-profit. The school will have room for about 100 students, a similar size to the Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico's School of Medicine.
According to the report, the new residency positions could help alleviate New Mexico's physician shortage while simultaneously benefitting the state's economy.
