Physician-Owned Hospitals Group Says 7,000 Healthcare Jobs Could Be Created if Projects Allowed to Move Forward

Physician Hospitals of America, the trade group representing the physician-owned hospital industry, said 7,000 healthcare jobs could be created if POH projects were allowed to move forward, according to a MarketWatch news release.

Section 6001 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act halted the construction and expansion of POHs. In total, 77 construction and expansion projects had to be abandoned.

PHA President Michael Russell, MD, said in the release that tens of thousands of construction jobs could also be created on top of the projected 7,000 healthcare jobs. PHA also estimates Section 6001 of the PPACA has cost communities roughly $1 billion in local economic activity.
