The Complexities of National Health Care Workforce Planning analyzed the supply of 12 categories of healthcare professions. The study highlights several key findings and future steps for making healthcare more effective, innovative and responsive:
• Demographic and population health risk will most likely drive growth in demand for healthcare.
• Other factors that will contribute to healthcare work force demand include changes in the education, licensing and regulatory oversight of health professionals.
• Health workforce planning challenges include fragmented data collection.
• Home health aides (50 percent) and personal/home care aides (46 percent) are projected to have the largest increases in job growth from 2008-2018.
