Yadkin County officials have decided to seek a new management company for Yadkinville, N.C.-based Yadkin Valley Community Hospital, leaving the future uncertain for about 150 workers, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.
The county-owned hospital is currently managed by Kansas City, Mo.-based HMC/CAH Consolidated. However, the county has decided to let its contract with HMC/CAH expire April 30 due to concerns about the financial stability of HMC/CAH, according to the report.
The hospital could potentially close if a new management group isn't found and that group isn't able to secure the licensures from HMC/CAH by May 1, according to the report.
In the meantime, hospital employees have received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice, indicating that lay offs could begin as early as April 1.
But Commission Chairman Kevin Austin told the Winston-Salem Journal county commissioners are confident that a new provider will be in place May 1, and are hopeful that many of the current employees at the hospital will be hired by the new management group.
