In a recent blog post on their website, EmCare features an article from Studer Group's Bob Murphy, RN, Esq. on the language of leadership and why standards of behavior are so important to success.
In the article, Mr. Murphy notes that while most organizations have standards of behavior in place, most organizations do not spend enough time focusing on their importance.
In order to truly engage coworkers in upholding standards of behavior to the highest degree, Mr. Murphy offers a few tips.
Roll out the standards in a fun and interactive way
Merely putting the standards in an email or on a poster is not enough. Mr. Murphy suggests that if one of the standards is "Appearance", host a fashion show to demonstrate proper work attired.
Tie standards into training and development
Host a series lunch-and-learn sessions around a certain standard. These sessions offer departmental training in a fun, casual atmosphere.
Make standards part of the onboarding and orientation process
It's important to make sure everyone is on the same page, starting day 1. Especially if an organizational standard is "Mentoring", it is important that new staff members receive a mentor to contact for questions in their new role.
