Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center plans to eliminate 350 jobs across all of its locations.
Employees affected by the layoffs are managers, technical support, laboratory technicians and administrative support workers, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report. They will receive severance packages based on tenure and position. No bedside registered nursing positions will be eliminated.
The layoffs are part of a restructuring effort Wake Forest Baptist started in 2012. The workforce reduction is expected to help close the gap between increasing expenses and falling reimbursements.
In 2013, Wake Forest Baptist did away with its 1.5 percent employee merit raise, in part because it was facing a multimillion-dollar operational loss.
