Livermore, Calif.-based ValleyCare Health System has laid off 24 employees in Livermore and Pleasanton, according to a Contra Costa Times report.
Some of the affected employees were part of a cardiac rehabilitation program, which the system closed, according to the report.
ValleyCare Health System has struggled financially for the past four years, and the layoffs are expected to save the system $1.8 million, the Contra Costa Times reported. The system may also consider a partnership with another health system as a result of the financial woes.
The layoffs came just two weeks after the system's President and CEO Marcy Feit announced her immediate resignation. However, the chairman of the hospital board, Jon Sensiba, told the Contra Costa Times the layoffs are not connected to Ms. Feit's departure.
