University of California registered nurses and university administration have reached a tentative settlement on a new 26-month collective bargaining agreement, according to a National Nurses United news release.
The agreement offers nurses meal and rest breaks during shifts to remain alert, provisions for nurses to address patient safety issues with managers, limited future increases in costs for health coverage and pay increases.
UC includes 11,000 nurses represented by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. They must ratify the proposed contract in membership meetings that end tomorrow. The contract would affect five major UC hospitals in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Davis (Sacramento) and Irvine and student health centers at other UC campuses.
