14 medical experts to advise Ohio governor on coronavirus

Cincinnati-based UC Health President and CEO Rick Lofgren, MD, is part of a health group that will help advise Gov. Mike DeWine amid the state's preparations for COVID-19, reports Cincinnati Business Courier.

Although the state does not have confirmed COVID-19 cases, one person is suspected of having the illness caused by the new coronavirus from China, a news release from the governor said.

Other members of the advisory group are:

  • Janet Bay, MD, vice president, clinical leadership affairs, Ohio Hospital Association
  • T. Laurence (Larry) Blosser, MD, corporate medical director, Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians
  • Michael Brady, MD, retired associate medical director and co-medical director for patient safety, Nationwide Children's Hospital
  • William W. Brien, MD, chief quality and medical officer, University Hospitals
  • Michael Canady, MD, CEO of Holzer Health System
  • Jim Guliano, RN, vice president, quality programs, Ohio Hospital Association
  • Ann Hamilton, executive director of public and government affairs, Cleveland Clinic
  • Pamela Jensen, president, ProMedica Memorial Hospital and ProMedica Fostoria Hospital
  • Robert Kose, MD, JD, Hospice Northwest Ohio Medical Physicians
  • Andrew W. Thomas, MD, CMO of OSU Wexner Medical Center
  • Bruce D. White, CEO of Knox Community Hospital
  • Bruce T. Vanderhoff, MD, CMO of OhioHealth
  • Robert Wyllie, MD, chief of medical operations, Cleveland Clinic

Referring to the group, the governor said in his news release: "As we learn more about COVID-19 and its spread in the United States, I am grateful for the expertise of these medical professionals who will help advise the state on strategies to deal with the disease and the best medical practices and procedures."

The board had its first meeting on March 4.
